8.29.16 Second Transfer

Hey Everyone!

I just want to thank you all so much for your love,
support and prayers. I can definitely feel them. We have seen so many
miracles and I know without a doubt that your prayers have helped make
them possible. We have been able to find people to teach and have been
working to help them progress. This week we put our friend JC on date
for baptism!! We are so excited for him! He is extremely humble and
thankful for this opportunity to learn. He already has such an
incredible testimony of the gospel.  We are so excited for him to be
baptized on September 24th!!

Another cool miracle happened this week on our way to dinner. We got a
call from someone but their number wasn't saved in our phone so we had
no idea who it was. When we answered they said is this Sister Goudy
and Sister Hyer? It was one of our new investigators!! We had met with
her earlier that day and had invited her to read Mosiah 24 about the
people who were in bondage and then delivered by the Lord. She said "I
just had to call and tell you, I was reading that chapter you asked me
to read about bondage and I was right at the part where the lord is
delivering them and my mom called and told me that we are going to be
able to have my nieces and nephews move in with us!!" She connected it
directly to the chapter that the kids were being delivered into a
better situation. It was so awesome to see her make that connection! I
know that the Book of Mormon was written for our day and that it does
apply to what we are going through. This really reminded me of how
mindful our Heavenly Father is of us.

This week we had transfers which has been a very bitter sweet
experience   It's hard to say good bye to a companion. I don't know why
I never thought about how leaving someone you have spent 24/7 with for
3 months would not be hard. I am so grateful for the opportunity I had
to learn from Sister Hyer! She taught me how to be exactly obedient
and to follow Preach My Gospel. I am striving to really apply the
things she taught me to the work here. It was so fun to work with her.
This will be my 5th transfer here in Warrenton and I am so excited to
see it continue to grow. Over the last 6 months of being here I have
seen it transform so much.   Five transfers is kind of a long time to be in
an area but I know Heavenly Father knows what I need so I am striving
to see what he wants me to see. My new companion is Sister O'Donnall.
She is from Utah and she loves animals. She has a moss ball for her
"pet" on her mission. She has a strong testimony and she is really
good at helping people understand gospel principles through her
stories. This is one of her last transfers in the mission so she is
very experienced.

Sister Hyre's birthday is tomorrow and so before she left Sister
Anguiano (the awesome member we live with) made her favorite desert
and decorated our apartment. She was really sad to leave but she was
glad she got to say bye to some of the members. We got to help pull
weeds at one of the member’s farm. They have all sorts of fun animals
one of our favorites was the big goats that greet you at the front
door. That same family also gave us some milk from their cows and
taught us how to make our own cheese. It was so cool!!

I am so grateful to have this opportunity to serve the Lord! Change is
hard but I know it is for the best. I am so excited to keep learning
this transfer and especially to keep seeing miracles. I know that this
truly is Christ’s church. I know that as we put our trust in him he will
provide a way. I have been reading in Ether about the brother of Jared
and all the times he cries into the Lord. It reminded me of how
important it is to always talk to our Heavenly Father. It brings me so
much comfort to know that He is always here for me when you might feel
lost or unfamiliar, He is there. I hope you all have a great week and
know that I love you!

Love, Sister Goudy

8.15.16 Red Truck Bakery

Hey Everyone!                                8-15-16

We have had a great week! We have been working with the members on the ward mission plan. It is a great plan because it takes it in small and simple steps starting with just opening your mouth.  Tonight we are having a follow-up dinner with some members who are doing great with the plan. They have two little kids and we drew them pictures of missionaries to color while we talk with them about missionary work. It's going to be so fun!

This weekend we found our recent convert Cherokee. We thought she  had moved away but turns out she was at home for a couple of weeks. It was so good to see her!

We also
had another sister come to church for the first time in several
years! It was so great to have her back. Both of these experiences reminded me of how the Lord will never forget about us. I know that he
is always waiting to help us back but as President Utchdorf says, he will force no one to heaven. I know that to be true. He loves us so much and will never take away our agency.

Today we went to old town Warrenton and saw a historic jail. We learned so much. Then after we got to go to Warrenton’s best bakery, the Red Truck Bakery.

Thank you all so much for your fun letters I love hearing from you it was a fun surprise to get real snail mail and pictures

I hope you all have a great week! I know that this gospel is true and I know that our Heavenly Father loves each and every one of us.

Funny story,  We were asking Taylor, who will be three in November, who is in the picture.  His eyes litup and he said  "Shelby has a TRUCK!  Trucks are his favorite things.  we were passing a field with a dozen horses in it and we said "Look at all the horses!"  He promptly yields out "TRUCK."  Their was a semi-trailer parked in the same field!  He only has eyes for trucks and other BIG equipment.  He is so entertained when we go down the freeway that is undercopnstruction.  It is a virtual large equipment parade!  Kids, no matter the size, are wonderful!!!

August 10, 2016 Washington D.C. Temple

Hey Everyone!                                                                8/10/16

We got to go to the temple today! It was so good to be able to go again I can't believe it's already been 6 months. We can go every 6 months and it worked out perfect because sister Hyer came out a transfer before me so we got to go together. The temple is going to be closed for almost 2 months but they are opening the Philadelphia temple soon so then more people can go to the temple more often during the year. We went with the Relief Society sisters today and they said the temple was so busy at one point that it was open 24 hours during the week. That was for a couple of years because it was the only temple on this side of the east coast. I cannot imagine how excited the members were when they found out they were getting a temple. I know that it truly is the House of the Lord. He really wants us all to be there and feel of his love. I am so grateful that we were able to go today. We were kind of worried it might take a really long time because of traffic but everything went so smooth I know that our Heavenly Father will bless us as we strive to attend the temple.

Last week we got to go on exchanges with the Sister Training Leaders.  I always learn so much from them. I went with Sister Neilson and she taught me a lot about finding. She talked about finding smart, like checking up on people in our area book and then trying people around them. They showed us this new app that is such a blessing especially for our area because it is so big. It takes all the addresses from our area book and puts them on a map. It's really nice because usually we try to plan out what areas we will be in for weekly planning and then plan around that. But now we can go to an area and see what potential investigators we have from there. It's awesome!

We used it the other day and found a new area we had never been to. We met this really nice guy and set up a return appointment for the next day. When we came back though we found out he already had his own beliefs on the Book of Mormon. It was kind of an awkward situation but I think we both learned a lot from it.  It really helped me understand my testimony of the Book of Mormon. I know it is the word of God and that it testifies of Christ.  Sister Hyer has been going through the Book of Mormon and marking all of the times it talked about Christ.   It is so cool to see that he truly is on every page!

On Tuesday our awesome investigator got to go the members farm! It was such a great experience for her family. It gets better too! Now the member’s daughter is going to be watching her kids will she is at work!

It is so awesome how the Lord never leaves us alone.   It turned into the ultimate fellow-shipping! I know that this truly is the Lord’s work
and that he is helping us every step of the way.

We have seen so many miracles! I am so grateful to be serving at this time.  I know that the gospel is true.  I know that our Heavenly Father loves each and every one of us!

Thank you all so much for your love and support.

Love, Sister Goudy

P.S.  So this week we had some crazy weather. One of the members trees got stuck by lightning. It was a huge blessing it didn't damage her house, her car, or her dogs. She said that every day she prays for protection and she know that Heavenly Father truly protected her.

We went to dinner with some members and they got us some really good dessert.

Howdy from Sister Goudy!

Sister Hyer has started saying Howdy, Sister  Goudy too, it's awesome! We've had kind of a rainy week. It rains really hard out here.

This week we had an awesome lesson with Kate! We have seen her change so much. Which is so cool because that is what the gospels is all about. One of the coolest things though is that Kate is taking her whole family to one of the member’s farm tomorrow! I am so excited for her! When I heard the member had invited her over I was so happy. We really can't do this work without Heavenly Father and the members.

I think one of the coolest things I have seen on my mission is how the gospel truly softens hearts. This week we met with an awesome lady who at the beginning seemed super hesitant but by the end she was really open with us. It's a powerful testimony to me of how the spirit works. A couple of months ago we were on a lady's doorstep and she was not at all about the church, but after a coupe, of minutes of the spirit testifying to her she had a huge change of heart.

One of my favorite scriptures from my reading this week was in 3 Nephi17 verse 5 it says, "And it came to pass that when Jesus had thus spoken, he cast his eyes round about again on the multitude, and beheld they were in tears, and did look steadfastly upon him as if they would ask him to tarry a little longer with them."  I know we haven't seen Christ yet but we do have so many ways we can feel of his presence. I have loved reading about when he came to the Americas and to learn more about who he truly is. I know that another way we can learn more of him is in the temple I am so excited next week we will get to go to the temple! I know that this gospel is true and I love being able to serve the Lord!

I hope you all have a great week.
